I'll take one of each
1. Crate & Barrel, 2. Pottery Barn, 3. Pottery Barn, 4. West Elm |
Birthdays are my favorite. Best friend birthdays are even better. I've spent the past few days browsing for jewelry boxes and did not realize how many really nice ones are out there. Can't wait to celebrate!

Science, Technology & Public Health
Previously I blogged about a fake salt article. Are you ready for fake meat? Check out this article Test-Tube Burgers if you are interested in what your dinner menu might look like in the near future. I think the concept is very cool and probably very eco-friendly, but I'm not so sure I like where this is headed.
Did you know the world consumes two hundred and eighty-five million tons of meat each year? Which ends up being ninety pounds per person!

I am currently addicted to the Annals of Science section of the New Yorker. Addicted. Because of this, expect to see more articles about science, technology, and public health.
Another thought provoker by Atul Gawande, surgeon, professor, author, and staff writer for the New Yorker since 1998, Letting Go is about how far can medicine can go and what should happen when we get close to the end.
Ps. This time you can actually read the whole article.
Little Black...flats
My mission for the perfect pair of little black flats has ended. Monday, while browsing for boat shoes in Newport, I found my match. After wearing them all day, I quickly ordered the beige and cannot wait for them to arrive!
What I've had my eye on:
1. Cole Haan, Air Bacara Ballet
2. TBD
3. Bruno Magli, Bogolino Flat
4. Tory Burch, Classic Reva Ballet Flat

Cliff Walk
What started off as one of many recommendations from a friend, the Cliff Walk soon became one of my favorite parts of this mini-vacation. The 3.5 mile cliff-side stretch, behind the Bellevue mansions and 70 feet above crashing waves, was beautiful.

Newport, RI
Boat Shoe Heaven, Day 1. Despite the overcast weather, Newport is adorable. I am looking forward to boat apparel, homemade ice cream, and relaxing.
Ps. Who would have guessed that underneath an old, quaint facade is actually a very modern town? The drink menu at The Mooring was on an ipad. I was blown away. New York needs to step it up.

Fake Salt
First came fake sugar, and now comes fake salt. Check out this article called Snacks for a Fat Planet from The New Yorker on what we can expect from Pepsi-Co in the very near future. Their new mission: to create potato chips with fake salt, which tastes just as salty as a regular chip. This new salt, called "15 micron salt," produces the same type of taste curves as regular salt, and is expected to be used on Lay's plain chips in the US by the end of 2012. Soon.
Did you know a robot does the taste testing at Pepsi-Co? Despite loving these major advancements in technology, I am clearly not ok with today's ridiculously altered foods. I will honestly not be surprised by the new diseases that pop up twenty years from now because of this. Please eat real sugar and real salt.
P.S. Apparently you can't read the whole article online unless you are a subscriber. Enjoy the abstract though.

Eating Red
Those of you who see me on a daily basis know how much I love fruit. As the weather warms up and strawberries are almost in season, I cannot help but satisfy my sweet tooth. This recipe comes from one of my aunts in Italy and is the perfect afternoon (or afterwork) dessert.
Ingredients:
-Strawberries
-Lemons
-Sugar (and I mean the real stuff)

Daydreaming
While stuck in Broome Street traffic on the way back from Long Island, I noticed several buildings with rooftop gardens. I spent the next hour daydreaming of places like these:
One day, I will have a penthouse in Soho. Rooftop garden included.
Post
Having gone to school in the city, I completely forget how picturesque suburban campuses can be. Yesterday was by far the ideal day for an outdoor graduation on the Great Lawn (drastically different from the Washington Square Park quad). Michela rocked her cap and gown, Idina Menzel's performance was amazing, I successfully managed to walk around the grass in heels all day, and the weather was perfect. I wish I could take every Friday off.
Ps. Fun fact of the day. Did you know that commencement caps, also called mortarboards due to their similarity in appearance to what bricklayers use to hold mortar, originate from the "biretta," a hat worn by the Roman Catholic clergy.

Confession #1
There's no better day to start a blog than when you are in your pjs, all curled up under 10 blankets, out of work sick, and avoiding the rain. Today's prescription: tea, soup, and sleep.
To the natural life, lululemon, and the pursuit of chiropractic!
